TOURIST ATTRACTIONS IN KOTA KINABALU (PART 1)

Mountain Torq Via Ferrata

At 3776 meters above sea level, the Via Ferrata created by Mountain Torq at Mt. Kinabalu is the highest and Asia's first.

Anyone planning to climb Mt. Kinabalu should include the Via Ferrata as part of their itinerary. It will add more hours on your time spent on the mountain and will definitely add more fatigue and body ache but you will come out of the experience all the more better for it. After all, since you'll be bragging about summitting Kinabalu, might as well add the Via Ferrata as part of your bragging rights.

Mount Kinabalu
The climb up Kinabulu (the highest peak in southeast asia) was extremely tough (if your of good fitness and strong mind!) but well worth the effort!!

The first day is physically tough and you climb up, up, up and up for hours before you reach the base camp where you sleep before attempting the submit at 2am. The landscape goes through Jurasic Park-esque jungle to red rock arizona and is very beautiful. The day we climbed it was hot and humid with a little rain and wind at points.

Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park
When in Kota Kinabalu, take the time to visit the nearby islands of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park. The marine park is made up of 5 islands (Sulug, Gaya, Sapi, Manukan and Mamutik) and are 15-20 minutes away by speedboat from the main jetty in KK. Sapi, Manukan and Mamutik are particularly popular - great for snorkelling, scuba diving, water sports or to just spend a day lazing on the beach! Try to avoid weekends, it gets busy and don't feed any wildlife (namely monkeys) if you come across them. If you don't scuba dive, check out Seawalking, only available on Sapi island (costs around RM200+). Island hopping is also a great way to check out more than one island in a day - check for packages when you buy tickets at the jetty. Boats depart from Jesselton Point Jetty, the Sutera Harbour Resort and Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort.
